Accrington ST defender Benn Ward has signed with Reading on a three-and-a-half year contract. The 22-year-old joined the Royals after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

What happened?

Ward came through the youth ranks at Brighton & Hove Albion and after a brief spell at Isthmian League Hastings United he joined Burnley and then Accrington.

Why it matters for Accrington ST

The transfer is a significant move for Ward, who made his Football League debut while on loan at Swindon Town. As of 23 Jun 2026, Accrington ST stands 16th in England League Two with 53 pts, 14W-11D-21L from 46 games, and a recent form of LDDLL. Their last result was a 3-0 loss to Oldham on 2026-05-02.
