Accrington ST Midfielder Joins Northampton Town on Three-Year Deal

Accrington ST midfielder Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh has joined Northampton Town on a three-year contract, leaving behind a spell with the Saints. The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland youth talent made his debut in the Carabao Cup in 2024 and featured in last season's FA Cup victory over Leicester.

Why He Left Accrington ST

O'Brien-Whitmarsh admitted he felt he spent “a bit too long” playing under-21s football before leaving Accrington ST. He made 13 appearances and scored three goals during the 2024/25 campaign.

What's Next for O'Brien-Whitmarsh

The midfielder is now determined to establish himself as a senior player at Northampton Town. He has been convinced by manager Chris Hogg, who spoke about what he wants from his teams and that aligns pretty well with O'Brien-Whitmarsh's game.

Accrington ST's Current Form

Accrington ST currently sits 16th in England League Two, with 53 points from 46 games. They have scored 47 goals and conceded 58, with a -11 goal difference. They are 34 points behind leaders Bromley and have a recent form of 0W-3D-2L (DLLDD).

Next Fixture

Accrington ST's next fixture is against Crawley Town at home on September 5th.
