Former Manchester United defender Sonny Aljofree has completed a permanent move to Rotherham United after a successful trial period. The 21-year-old, who spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Accrington Stanley, has signed a two-year contract with the Millers, with an option for a further year.
Aljofree impressed Rotherham head coach Alex Bruce during pre-season, featuring in friendlies including a 1-1 draw against Matlock Town. His versatility at both centre-back and right-back positions secured him a permanent deal. The defender wore the number 14 shirt in his first official appearance for the Millers.
During his loan spell at Accrington Stanley in the 2024/25 campaign, Aljofree made 25 League Two appearances, scoring three goals. His performances helped the Wham Stadium side secure a mid-table finish. Next fixture: vs Port Vale (at home, 2027-02-27) (9th in the table).
After 14 years with Manchester United, Aljofree now has the opportunity to establish himself in senior football. His move to Rotherham marks a new chapter in his career, following his release from Old Trafford earlier this year.
